Does the government lottery make financial sense?

I have been playing the government lottery for a few years but have not won any substantial amount. I keep wondering if buying lottery tickets every week is a good use of money from a financial perspective? On one hand, the jackpots can be in millions which can change someone's life. But the chance of winning is very low and I am not sure if I could have made better investment decisions with the money I spend on lottery tickets over time. What are your thoughts? Do you think playing the government lottery regularly makes financial sense?

On one hand, government lotteries do provide some funding for various programs, such as education and infrastructure. On the other hand, the majority of lottery profits go to paying out prizes, leaving a relatively small percentage for these programs.
