DraftKings betting surcharge proposal stirs heated debate among betting fraternity

American sports bookmakers have long struggled to find strategies to deal with rising tax rates. However, neither analysts nor bettors are fond of DraftKings' novel concept.

DraftKings' announcement on Thursday that it would be imposing a gaming surcharge on players in states with high tax rates sparked discussions among the betting community.

According to DraftKings, the additional fee will be "fairly nominal to the customer." Illinois was the sole example provided. "A low to mid-single digit percentage of the net winnings a customer would have previously received" is the amount that the fee in that market will be.
