Dutch banks strongly oppose gambling limits due to customer privacy concerns

Dutch banks will not assist the government in imposing a cap on customer gambling. They consider it a privacy infringement to watch over their patrons' gaming activities.

The Minister for Legal Protection had pledged to the legislature that he would push banks to take additional steps to curb problem gambling. Lawmakers are drafting a bill to establish gambling limits, but it may take years before it is put into effect. If a gambler transfers excessive amounts of money from his account to gambling companies, banks are supposed to be able to step in and assist sooner.

The idea is strongly opposed by the Dutch banks.
