Dutch gambling regulator flags unauthorized sports bets

According to a report by the Dutch gambling regulator, it was discovered that a number of licensed gambling operators in the country had provided unapproved sports wagers. Seven operators were found to have placed wagers on amateur and under-21 games, according to the report. Dutch law forbids this because of worries that these matches are more likely to be manipulated for betting purposes.

Additionally, it was discovered that two operators had permitted wagers on the quantity of yellow and red cards as well as corner kicks in games around the world in 2023–2024. Moreover, this is forbidden.

Unauthorized betting can pose risks to consumers, including lack of protections, potential fraud, and negative social implications. The regulator's actions underscore the importance of monitoring and addressing illegal activities to maintain the integrity of the sports betting landscape and protect participants. It also points to the need for continuous dialogue and cooperation between regulators, operators, and stakeholders to promote responsible gambling practices.
