Exclusive: Erik ten Hag was upset that Liverpool secured Cody Gakpo before Man United

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, made it obvious that he was interested in Cody Gakpo's transfer this January and was quite sad that the team didn't get him.

In his exclusive CaughtOffside piece, Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool ultimately decided to sign Gakpo rather than Manchester United, and that the Reds just moved more quickly to complete the transaction.

Ten Hag was very familiar with and fond of the Netherlands international, and it appears that there were internal discussions about bringing him to Old Trafford. However, the United board simply didn't move quickly enough.

I can understand why the Manchester Untied coach would be upset because numerous sources claimed that Gakpo was the top target in attack, and the move fell down the drain due to various factors
