Fagioli banned for gambling

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) banned Nicolo Fagioli, 22, for seven months for gambling offenses, thereby ending his season with Italy and Juventus.

Fagioli personally informed the federation that he had bet on football games, which is against the law for professional football players. By acknowledging his crime and cooperating with the authorities, he was able to negotiate a less severe punishment. In professional football, betting offenses typically result in a minimum three-year suspension.

Fagioli was initially given a 12-month suspension, but five of those months have been changed into a "treatment plan" aimed at treating the player's gambling addiction, for which he has previously been seeing a therapist.
