Federal bill seeks to remove sports betting excise tax sportsbook place on wagers

A $50 annual head tax is intended to be lifted from every employee that regulated sportsbooks hire, and new bipartisan federal legislation aims to abolish the excise tax levied by the US government on all wagers made on legal sports.

The house is required to set aside 25 cents for the federal excise tax when a bettor places a $100 wager using a licensed book, such as DraftKings. Since the federal sports betting ban that had restricted single-game sports betting to Nevada was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in May 2018, those quarters have added up quickly.
