FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently said women should carefully choose their fights for equality in soccer. When talking to the Financial Times, Infantino said he wants equal treatment but women need good strategies. "I think it's important that women pick the right battles," he said. "If you want to convince us, men, what we have to do, you have to pick the right battles. You cannot fight on all fronts at the same time." His remarks upset equality groups who feel women face many obstacles. "It's disappointing to hear FIFA President Infantino say that women should 'pick their battles' when it comes to equality," said Kat Craig, CEO of Women's Sport Trust. "The reality is that women in football face discrimination and inequality on all fronts, from pay and prize money to media coverage and sponsorship."
Infantino has pledged a more inclusive game. While expanding the women's World Cup, some note his words have not led to fair treatment like equal wages at FIFA itself. The debate on women's rights in soccer continues.
