Finland sole gambling operator supports licensing model plans

Finland may be about to implement an online gaming licensing scheme. The nation recently introduced a legislative plan to move toward a licensing system, making it the only EU member state to still retain a monopoly over iGaming.

Finland will eliminate the monopoly's exclusivity with regard to online gambling under the new legislative plan. However, the business will continue to have exclusive control over retail slots and the lottery.

The impacted operator cautioned that, despite appearing to support the measure, the shift to a licensing model will probably result in layoffs and force the business to restructure, close properties, and fire employees. The company estimates that up to 240 workers might lose their jobs.
