Florida continues to fight sports betting in court

According to reports, FloridaWest Flagler Associates requested an en banc rehearing from the Court of Appeals over Florida's gaming agreement for sports betting with the Seminole Tribe. Florida first permitted sports betting in 2021. The activity began on November 1, 2021, thanks to a new gaming agreement with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, but was suspended on December 4, 2021. When a judge determined that the agreement between the tribe and the state broke federal law, sports betting was essentially banned in the state.

It's interesting to see Florida continuing to push back against expanding sports betting within the state. On the one hand, many see sports betting as an opportunity for additional tax revenue and economic activity. However, others are concerned about issues like gambling addiction and want to limit betting opportunities. It will be interesting to see how this ongoing legal battle plays out.
