In an effort to challenge the Seminole Tribe's sports betting monopoly, the governor of Florida is requesting further time from the Florida Supreme Court to respond to his case.
The governor's request was made three days after No Casinos Inc., a local organization opposed to gambling, submitted a brief of its own in favor of the West Flagler petition.
The attorneys for DeSantis note out that the court had previously stated that the government might want an extension as well, and that No Casinos was granted a 10-day extension to submit its amicus brief. In the upcoming days, the court will choose whether to grant the motion or not.
Legal sports betting in Florida will stay suspended until the resolution of a federal lawsuit, regardless of the state case's outcome.
