According to an indictment unsealed on Wednesday, seventeen people have been charged for their alleged involvement in a Mafia-linked loansharking and gambling operation on Staten Island, New York.
Over $22.7 million in bets were handled by the operation, which also produced about $500K in interest from usurious loans every week. Wiretaps, covert surveillance, and warrants for offshore gambling sites were employed by investigators to gather evidence against the group.
