France postpones budget amendment on iCasino laws

The "proposed amendments" to the 2025 Budget to enact legislation and establish an online casino market have been withdrawn by the French government.

The Budget Minister made the announcement, stating that additional consultations were required to prevent the adverse effects and job losses that regional stakeholders had warned of.

Therefore, France will continue to enforce its gambling laws from 2010, maintaining a fragmented market that forbids online casino operations but regulates sports betting, horse racing, and poker.

The French government's plans to amend the 2025 Budget to introduce an online casino market have been shelved. This decision follows the Budget Minister’s announcement that more consultations were necessary, as local stakeholders had expressed concerns over potential job losses and negative impacts. As a result, France will retain its current gambling laws, dating back to 2010, which prohibit online casino gaming while allowing regulated activities such as sports betting, horse racing, and poker. This keeps France’s market fragmented, limiting its expansion in the online gambling sector.
