French government to hold public consultation meeting following online casino U-turn

Following reports from several French media outlets that the upcoming legislation pertaining to online casinos has been postponed, it is believed that the French government and gambling operators will meet for a public consultation next week.

Since December 2023, when the European Gaming and Betting Association first called for France to regulate its online casino industry, the country has been working to regulate the industry.

It’s good to see that France is taking steps toward regulating online casinos with input from the public and stakeholders. With the European Gaming and Betting Association pushing for this since last year, a framework could bring more transparency and consumer protection to the market. Although the legislation is postponed, the upcoming consultation shows a commitment to a well-rounded regulatory approach. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects both operators and players in France as things progress.
