Gamble pays off for Thailand as casino plan wins public support

A public hearing demonstrated strong support for building a large entertainment complex with gambling, and as a result, Thailand's new government will proceed with plans to open casinos, a senior official announced on Thursday.

Although lotteries, illegal gaming, and football betting are common in Thailand and involve large sums of money being exchanged, casinos and other forms of gambling are prohibited.
