Gambling ads regulations yet to be fully enforced in Australia

Even though it is illegal to broadcast gambling advertisements during sporting events, Australian sports fans continue to see them on their screens. This is despite efforts to outlaw gambling in sports. According to a recent report, during the opening minutes of an Australian Football League round one match that aired before 8 PM, over 70 gambling advertisements for Tabcorp, the country's largest gambling company, were shown.

It is not easy to enforce such laws because most of gambling companies are the financial backbone of most media outlets. Moreover, the owners of gambling companies are the moneybags of most communities and they can easily go against laws that are against their interests. Non governmental organizations should add more pressure on the government.
