Gambling levy proposed to help remove betting from Australian media companies

Media companies would lose $240 million in advertising revenue if the Albanese government imposed a complete ban, but part of the compensation would come from a 2% tax on gambling companies' earnings.

That's the conclusion reached by the progressive think tank Australia Institute, which will work with the Greens to advocate for the levy as part of a larger campaign against Labor's proposal for caps during general TV programming and in favor of a complete ban on advertisements, as suggested by the bipartisan Murphy inquiry.
