GamCare data suggests rise in online slot problems

The percentage of internet gamblers seeking assistance for slot machine issues has nearly doubled over the past five years, according to recent data from the gambling charity GamCare.

Online slots were listed by 60% of people who admitted to having problems with online gambling in 2022–2023 as one of their primary problems. Compared to the 34% reported between 2018 and 2019, this is a considerable increase.

The data also shows that 73% of all callers to the National gaming Helpline during the course of the previous year disclosed having problems with online gaming.

This information was gathered from 5,660 callers to the National Gambling Helpline who disclosed the type of gambling behavior that was troubling for them, 4,154 of whom mentioned problems with internet gambling.

While these numbers are disheartening, it's good organizations like GamCare collect this data bcs only by understanding problematic behaviors can effective solutions be developed.

Operators and regulatory bodies must give utmost importance to responsible gambling measures and guarantee the implementation of adequate safeguards to safeguard vulnerable individuals.
