A reputed capo of the Genovese crime organization was given a 24-month prison term for gambling and racketeering. A Cosa Nostra member who is made and usually commands a squad of troops is given the title of capo, or captain. The capo provides his group with support and protection while keeping an eye on their illicit activities. The capo often obtains a portion of the unlawful profits made by each member of his crew who is a soldier or associate.
