Japan approved Osaka as the location for the nation's first casino resort, but that hasn't convinced Genting Singapore to reconsider its abandoned intentions to apply for a gaming license there. Genting Singapore informed investors that the business is not actively pursuing a bid to create an integrated resort project in Osaka or in Japan amid news that the Osaka scheme is going forward, opening the way for MGM Resorts International and Orix to open Japan's first gaming site there. After it became increasingly evident that Yokohama authorities and citizens didn't want any part of a casino-hotel, Genting terminated down its operations in Japan in late 2021.
