Georgia sports betting amendment is passed by a Senate committee.

The Georgia Senate committee has approved a plan to let voters decide on allowing sports betting in the state.

The proposal, sponsored by Senators Cowsert and Beach, would create a gaming commission to regulate betting, overseen by the Georgia Lottery Corporation.

There's opposition from religious leaders. Another bill also aims to legalize sports betting, with revenue taxed at 20% for education, including the HOPE scholarship.
