A South Dakota man who killed an acquaintance at the Grand Gateway Hotel in the city with a gunshot wound has entered a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter, setting off a racist ban.
The offender acknowledged that, in a Grand Gateway room, he killed the deceased. The hotel's owner forbade any Native Americans from entering the building or using the casino bar the following day. Native Americans made up both the offender and the victim.
Due to the controversy created by the act, Native American organizations and their supporters staged numerous protests against the hotel as well as several civil rights lawsuits.
