Hartlepool Council promises to recover old woman's money squandered to fund gambling addiction

The £78,000 that a gambling addict who lost his mother's money on horse racing left the council out of pocket has promised to pay it back.

After he was sentenced, members of the Hartlepool Borough Council and a police officer who assisted in bringing a man to justice for selling his mother's home to feed his gambling addiction spoke out.

The 55-year-old transferred money to his personal account without his sick mother's permission, spending thousands of pounds at the bookmakers.
