The government would want to confirm the source of the income and that is just why you will be approached by the appropriate authorities to confirm the source of your wealth but when you are able to present necessary documents, you will be freed.

If such punter could present the necessary document and hand over to the police or better still hire a lawyer, it won't cause any problem because the source of the money has been confirmed as legitimate. It will be end of the case.

I believe you are right, but do you not think that thee betting companies could still drag the matter even further just because, in some cases, they might become bankrupt as a result of the receipt of your winnings?

It is never going to be the fault of the players because you're bound to receive your winnings and it's as simple as that. Everything is stated in the terms of service and they shouldn't go against it by not paying out winnings.
