Hellenic Club fined $1.2million over problem gambler who died of suicide

The ACT Gambling and Racing Commission fined the Hellenic Club of Canberra $1.2 million for violating gambling laws in connection with a man who later committed suicide. The club is appealing this decision.

The deceased was in debt before his death, having spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on poker machines with his wife.

His son-in-law complained that the Hellenic Club had not done enough to stop problem gambling in a letter to the Gambling and Racing Commission of the ACT after his death.
