Hong Kong government set to review budget proposal to elevate sports betting activities

The Hong Kong government will consider a proposal to permit sports betting on tennis, snooker, and basketball.

The Hong Kong Treasury, which was founded in 1926, is the oldest policy advisory body for Hong Kong's governance and the New Territories' constitution.

The chair, who feels that the Hong Kong Treasury needs to take new steps to enhance revenue generation for rural areas, has endorsed the proposal to increase sports wagering.

The chairman supports the creation of a new state-owned sports betting company in order to increase betting on a greater variety of sports, but the Hong Kong Treasury's proposal has caused controversy.
