Hong Kong police issues warning of potential increase in bets ahead of Euro 2024

A spike in illicit football betting is expected in the lead-up to the upcoming Uefa European Football Championship, or Euro 2024, according to Hong Kong police, since the quick development of internet platforms has made it easier for more gamblers to place bets.
Given its experience from 2022—the year Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup—the force stated that it anticipated an increase. It was suggested that major international sporting events had turned into a carnival for bookies and gamblers when police arrested 6,781 people that year, with 607 cases involving serious gambling—the highest numbers in five years at the time.
