How can a player get counterfeited?

A player can get counterfeited in poker when their hand loses value due to a community card that is dealt. This can happen in flop games such as Texas Hold'em and Omaha. For example, if a player holds an unsuited Ace-Two-King-King and the flop comes down 6-7-8, their hand loses value and they are said to be counterfeited. This can be especially confusing to newer poker players, as they may be attached to their hand and unaware that they have been counterfeited
