How can players avoid being labeled as a preflop caller?

Many players who have diffficulty witn long-term profitability find themselves labelled as "preflop callers". They regularly call raises with marginal or even poor starting hands, hoping to hit their draw on later streets. While hitting one's draw can produce big pots occasionally, it is a loseable strategy in the long run. So how can players avoid being seen as mere preflop callers? In my view, the key is judiciously folding marginal or poor starting hands preflop, and only calling selectivel with strong hands that one is willing to play agressively postflop. By tightening up one's preflop game in this way, long-term profits will surely follow.
