How did a beginner tear champions at the poker tables?

This greenhorn whipped every pro at that card game, giving lessons in grit he didn't know he possessed. Folks thought they'd make an easy buck picking on the new kid, till he cleaned them out hand by hand.

This joker was used to staring down fear, bluffing past all reason. Once he shook off the nerves, noting each player's tells, he could outthink and outlast the crustiest vets. The pot swelled till it dwarfed every other on the table.

The amazed crowd watched a nobody become somebody, his stack towering high as a mansion while so-called experts wilted into ruined nobody's again. This beginner emerged a champion, his place forever secured in poker's pantheon. Them that doubted him got what was coming, in chips and regret.

The tables had turned on a dime, and there was no returning to how things were. A star was born, and the lessons he learned that night would serve him well, hell or high water, through many more. Luck and skill made for an alliance to beat the devil himself, at any game where the final reckoning's made in bets, not lives.
