How do I know when to place a lay bet versus a standard bet?

When you lay a bet instead of bet normally, you bet on something not happening rather than happening. I think lay betting works well when you have an edge after doing research and finding the odds offered are greater than the true probability of an outcome. For me personally, I prefer traditional betting as it feels more straight forward and I find the amounts I win or lose easier to grasp. However, lay betting is a valuable strategy to consider in some situations, especially for obtaining better odds. Doing the calculations to determine the equivalent amount you'd win with a lay bet can be tricky though.

When you're comfortable with the risks involved: Standard bets come with their own set of risks, but they are typically more straightforward to understand than lay bets. If you prefer a more straightforward approach and are willing to accept the potential losses, standard bets may be the way to go.

Lay bets are frequently employed as a form of hedging. You can lay a bet against the same outcome to cover your position if you already have a wager on a team or result and wish to limit potential losses.

I commonly use let bets when I want to bet that a match would have no winner. That is that the match would end in a draw and that's always for matches involving two in form big teams. Otherwise, I use a standard bet more often to bet on specific outcomes of matches.
