How do you identify an edge in a game before placing a bet?

There are several ways to identify an edge before placing a bet on a game. I look at team and player form, injuries to key players, home court advantage, motivation and coaching. But the edge I focus most on is finding miss-pricings in the odds that the bookmakers have set. If I can find a team or player that the bookies have underpriced according to my analysis, that is the main edge I try to exploit.

The bookies sometimes tend to underprice a particular odd sometimes as a trap to draw bettors. It is a gamble for the bookies too but on their good day, it is always a massive win for the bookies.

I use the bookmarkers odds to know when a market is over priced or under priced. When a particular bookmarker over priced a particular market and the odd is higher than other bookmarkers, that is excellent way to know that the odd is over priced. But sometimes, you need to act fast to exploit the situation.

Create or apply statistical models to calculate the likelihood of various outcomes. This might assist you in identifying instances where the bookies' odds do not accurately represent the likelihood of an event.
