Card counting is not an effective strategy in Baccarat because the cards are dealt from a shoe and discards are not re-introduced into the game.
In games like Blackjack, card counting works by keeping track of the high and low-value cards that have already been played. This allows the player to estimate when the remaining deck is rich or poor in high-value cards, and adjust their betting and playing strategy accordingly.
However, in Baccarat, the cards are dealt from a shoe containing multiple decks (usually 6-8 decks). After each hand, the dealt cards are simply discarded and not returned to the shoe. Additionally, the shoe is reshuffled and replaced entirely after a certain number of hands.
This process of continuously using new decks and discarding the old ones completely negates the effectiveness of card counting. Any advantage gained by tracking the cards is immediately lost as soon as the shoe is reshuffled or replaced.
Furthermore, unlike Blackjack where players can adjust their hit/stand decisions based on the running count, there are no playing decisions in Baccarat that could be influenced by tracking the cards. Players simply bet on whether the Player or Banker hand will win.
So while card counting can provide an advantage in games like Blackjack where the same deck(s) are used for an extended period, it has no practical application in Baccarat due to the game's mechanics and lack of strategic playing decisions.
