As an old school poker player, I’ve come across just about every type over the years. Here’s a quick overview:

Fish: Loose, passive players who make the games possible. Always good for a feast.

Tight-aggressive: Only plays premium hands but MAN do they bet/raise with conviction. Watch out for aces!

Maniacs: No skill, no quit. Will call any bet with any two cards thinking it’s a flopped flush draw. Usually not too bright.

Whales: Big bankrolls and even bigger egos. Makes the games juicy but beware, they got enough money to buy the whole cardroom if they want.

LAGs: Loose-aggressive players. Range is wide, bets are big. Good to have at the table but hard to read. Tend to bluff a lot.

Nits: Ultra tight, play only the best starting hands and best boards. Boring but reduces risk.

Polarized: Plays very tight/aggressive. Hard to get a read and they have a knack of trapping people.

GTO: “Game theory optimal.” Plays by the math. I say math was meant for totals, not for these tricky calculations!

Micros, nightcrawlers, nyet, goat games. Seen more types than there are shoes on a roulette wheel. But you pay to play, so welcome one and all. Stack’em deep!
