I always want to learn more

There's always more to learn at the table, that's for damn sure. The game's constantly evolving. New strategies crop up faster than weeds in a garden.

Some things I'm always working to improve:

•Pot odds and implied odds. Making sure I get the right price to draw to any hand.

•Position at the table and how it affects both my positions and my opponents'. The key to maximizing position is movin' around.

•Tells. Even subtle tells can be the difference between filling up the pot or the glass. I study faces like they're fine art.

•Discounts. Looking for ways to get in cheap when the action's against me. You don't always need the best hand to win a pot, you just need it to be good enough.

•Math. Calculating odds in my head gets quicker every day. By now it's instinct but I keep running the numbers.

•Psychology. Trying to get inside other players' heads, figure out their motives, see how I can use it to my advantage. People are puzzles to be solved.

The game evolves though, so constant study is a need, not a luxury. New styles of play emerge to counter common strategies. An old-school player's got to stay sharp or risk getting left behind at the table. The minute you stop learning, is the minute you stop winning. At the tables, knowledge is power. And power's why we play.
