As a casino player, greed is the allure and the downfall. The hope of that huge jackpot keeps people feeding dollars into the machines for hours on end. They convince themselves “this is their lucky day”, even as their losses mount.
Once that initial excitement wears off, the reality sinks in - they’ve been wasted on addiction and stupid decisions. Money that should be paying bills has been pissed away. Spouses start arguing, credit cards max out, relationships get strained.
I’ve been guilty of going overboard myself more times than I care to admit. But after years of occasional gambling, I’ve learned my limits. I go in with a set budget and when that’s gone, I walk away. The thrill of the game is enough for me now, I don’t need to win to enjoy it. I’ve seen far too many friendships and marriages blow up over an inability to quit while they were behind. For me, a little casual gambling is entertaining, but greed will always ruin you in the end.
