If my cards are awful, should I give up?
Surrendering can be the best course of action in certain situations. On the other hand, you shouldn't always give up when you have a poor opening hand. It will cost you more money in the long run than playing some of those hands because you are giving up half of your bet.

The fundamentals of strategy tell you when giving up makes sense and when it doesn't.

I think it more advisable to back off when you know that you have a poor card in other to avoid putting much money into a game that you are not sure if you can win, so sometimes it easier to back off to avoid loosing of money
