If they shut down poker tomorrow, I'd be bummed out for sure. Poker's been a big part of my life for years and populated a lot of my memories, good and bad. Winning that seat at the World Series of Poker back then is something I'll never forget.
But the truth is, poker was always meant to be a game, not a career or the center of my identity. I've got a lot of miles on me now, mid-40s, and I've realized over time that the biggest thrills in life come from relationships, experiences, helping others - not from some jackpot or pot odds.
So if they ban poker, I won't panic. I'll raise a beer, say my goodbyes, and get to work rebuilding my routine around the things that really matter. Spend more time with the wife, take the kid on weekends, volunteer down at the VFW or soup kitchen. Life's too short not to.
