Incoming New York legislation to regulate sportsbook advertisements and promotions

Changes to the regulations governing promotions and advertisements for online sports betting could be approved as soon as Monday by New York's gaming regulatory body. The commission is taking this into consideration as sports betting companies are accused of using deceptive methods to attract new clients. A congressman from New York has introduced legislation to enact a federal ban on sportsbook advertisements and commercials. A requirement of this law is that operators must disclose the "specific dollar amount" a player must wager in order to qualify for a free gift or bonus. Additionally, that sum must be printed using the same font and typeface as the credit or gift amount.
