Indian State Orders Police To Curb online Gambling

In order to discourage online gambling, the Chhattisgarh state government in India instructed the state police to implement tight measures to limit online gambling/ betting.

Government representatives acknowledge that because there are no legal restrictions, they are unable to take decisive action against online casinos, whether they are legitimate or not.

The government has now instructed the police, although no laws have been passed. People therefore also believe that this is really a sham of state government. No one will be jailed by a court without a law or at the police's request, just because they are ordred by Government.​

I am not unhappy with this, but reason is Govt just ordered police to take action, and there is no law; how can something be curbed without a written law? Police will hardly have anything to do against, expect harrassing people when they don't present proof

Why are India govt troubling itself in a fight it knew it can't win. If they don't want the activities of gambling/betting operators, what are their legislators doing?. Why can't they make a law that ban the operation of betting instead of ordering police to arrest the offenders in a case that don't have a law prescribing it as an offence.

Imagine that. I'm not saying the actions of the govt to curb the nefarious activities of the gambling is bad. But they must follow due process. What is the point when police made arrest but cannot prosecute the alleged offenders for lack of law?.

Not only that, those arrested and some stakeholders could probably institute lawsuit against the government for tampering with their human rights. The police itself that arrest them can't prosecute or detain them unnecessarily.

Indians are reputed to be known for gambling. The government can not use illegal means to checkmate this. They should use legitimate means to control the menace among the youth.

It may be somehow difficult for the online betting and gambling sites to be stopped. This is because most online bettors always hide their identities and therefore may be difficult for the government to really know their identities.

It will be extremely difficult to stop online betting because so many people are getting addicted already and most of the countries even legalized it to some extent.

I think its a good idea and 100% surpoting then of their reaction towards the gamble administration.gamble have distroy so many things and I see no reason why people wouldn't want to stop playing it.gamble have made people a criminals. by being a gambler people are taking what does not belong to them all in the name of looking for gamble money.
