An Indiana woman who stole nearly $600,000 from the church where she worked was given a two-year sentence in federal prison. From 2008 through 2021, Marie Carson allegedly transferred $573,836.59 illegally from the business accounts of an Indianapolis Catholic church and connected school to her personal bank accounts. The true financial loss is probably far higher, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, who noted that Carson, 72, told church officials that the plan was started in 2004.
