Industry opposition has been voiced regarding plans to raise the gambling tax in the Netherlands.
Proposals to raise the rate from 7.3 percent to 37.8 percent, according to the director of the Netherlands Online Gambling Association, threaten the sustainability of the regulated Dutch market and will cause the supply of legal gambling to further decrease.
He continued by saying that the substantial social harm that will result from Dutch consumers turning more and more to unlicensed providers would be in sharp contrast to the planned €202 million increase in government funding.
