Intelligence officers say casino in Virginia would endanger national security

On the grounds that a casino in Northern Virginia might pose a national security threat, state lawmakers in Richmond are being urged to thwart the proposal by more than 100 former members of the US Central Intelligence Agency and other retired intelligence community officials.

The same arguments are frequently used by opponents of gambling, such as the assertion that the games are addictive and cause financial difficulties, which in turn lead to social problems like divorce, strained relationships, and even suicide. Opponents of a casino in Tysons, Northern Virginia, have come up with a new theory: a Las Vegas-style destination would jeopardize the nation's national security interests.
