Internal Revenue Service cracks down on $13billion in unreported gambling winnings

The Internal Revenue Service is stepping up its efforts to address Uncle Sam's possible failure to collect over $1 billion in income tax on recent casino jackpots, as uncovered by an audit. And the crackdown is aimed at one of the most well-known casino gamblers in Las Vegas.

It discovered that between 2018 and 2020, 148,908 Americans who won more than $15,000 from gambling did not file their taxes.

With winnings of over $13.2 billion, the unpaid taxes came to just over $1.4 billion.
