Years have passed since the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma began construction on a new gaming facility to be built across from its small Ioway Casino. This is due to a continuing dispute between the state's tribal casino operators and the governor's office. On the other side of their current resort, the tribe plans to construct a larger one. Additionally, it wants to build an exit ramp that goes straight to the casino, saving visitors from having to take a five-mile detour when coming from the freeway. The Tribe would finance and construct the casino as well as the exit ramp. However, the Tribe was informed that it would need to first sign a new gaming compact with the state when it requested permission to proceed with the project in 2019.
