Iowa House votes in favor of five-year casino mortarium

A bill that prohibits new casino licenses for five years has been approved by the Iowa House. The measure passed with a 68-31 vote and now heads to the Iowa Senate for consideration.

The bill would postpone new casino developments until 2029 and prohibit the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission from considering granting Cedar Rapids a casino license.

Existing casinos in the state are in favor of a moratorium. The measure was approved by the Iowa House in April of last year, but the Iowa Senate did not take the proposal into consideration.
