Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission set to review Cedar Rapids casino proposal

The owners of Riverside Casino and Golf Resort filed a petition to disqualify Linn County and Cedar Rapids as acceptable host locations for a commercial casino, and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission unanimously agreed to review it.

According to Riverside's petition for declaratory relief, the 2021 referendum, which was approved by 55% of Linn County voters, only extended the gaming provisions from a 2013 referendum rather than authorizing gambling.

The owners of Riverside Casino and Golf Resort challenged Linn County and Cedar Rapids as potential casino host locations, arguing that a 2021 referendum extended, rather than authorized, gambling provisions from 2013.
