Iowa student athletes say evidence was gathered illegally

In a court filing on Tuesday, four former or suspended Iowa State athletes argue that all charges against them should be dropped because the evidence used in a state investigation into sports wagering was obtained unlawfully.

The majority of the athletes who were prosecuted entered guilty pleas to underage gambling, paid fines, and had the accusations of identity theft dropped.

Athletes were accused of identity theft when they created accounts on mobile sports betting applications using fictitious names, typically those of relatives.
