Ireland eyes modernisation of gambling sector with new regulation

With the adoption of its new regulation, Ireland has made headway in its efforts to modernize its gambling sector.

The law establishes the foundation and legal foundation for the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, a brand-new, independent statutory body.

A "modern and robust" licensing and regulatory framework for the online and digital sector is another goal.

It's a bill that also attempts to combat the black market. It contains numerous measures to combat illegal or criminal gambling activities, as well as clear prohibitions on illegal activities or practices, many of which carry heavy jail sentences.
