Ireland government set to exempt charities and sports clubs from gambling advertising rules

Sports teams and nonprofit organizations will reportedly be completely exempt from the new gambling advertising regulations by the Department of Justice. Initially, it was planned to exempt games with up to €10,000 in prizes, but backbenches and opposition politicians allegedly complained, which resulted in the exemption being expanded to include all games.

TV commercials promoting gambling before 9 p.m. would be prohibited under Ireland's proposed gambling laws. Charities and clubs countered that if their products were included, it would have an adverse effect on charitable fundraising.
